Visiting Texas

I had never been to Texas but I was excited to go. It was nice to put faces to the names I had heard of for years.

My friend was visiting her family, something she longed for but somehow dreaded. She struggled with it and so here I was going to be her soul-guard.

When we got there, we decided to take a little girls adventure first. We saw the ocean, I had never seen the ocean in Texas. It was chilly but beautiful. So beautiful. We took a tour of the bay on this impromptu light cruise. It was refreshing to just spend time doing nothing but seeing the sights and talking. I think we both needed that.

When we arrived to her family's home, I noticed she changed from my upbeat friend to someone instantly defensive and immediately feeling guarded. Her energy was off.

She accused her family of judging her. I am not sure why. Guilt from her recent marriage and being from a family of Catholicism? I am not sure but that was what I was betting on, although I didn't see that her family was judging her. They missed her.

They really made me feel welcomed and comfortable, which I appreciate so much.

What I realized is that although we had been friends for more years than I should say because we are still relatively young!

The visit was nice. The family gathered around and told stories and laughed and loved. It was not nearly long enough visit but it was enough to know, I will be back!
