We flew from New Orleans to Puerto Rico. I had never been to Puerto Rico but I was excited! One of my coworkers had family there and spoke so highly of the land and people.

When we arrived, it felt like a different vibe than that of New Orleans. It was tense and uncomfortable even though I was excited to get there. The shuttle went through areas that would make your heart bleed, the desperation could be felt just in the scenery. There were bars on the balconies of apartments, that was unusual but was speaking a story of sadness.
At a store, the staff was rude and short with us. The rudeness was so blatant that I wanted to set my stuff down and walk out. I couldn't understand why people were rude when there had been so much great talk of friendliness and kindness.
I do not have much to say except we had left to go join our cruise line in Puerto Rico and we could not leave fast enough. The atmosphere was just unsettling.
A couple days later, I got a message stating that riots had broken out in Puerto Rico and our family and friends had hoped our cruise line was not returning to that port. Thank goodness we were not but it was so sad to hear of the news of their fight against local government.
I would like to experience the beauty and kindness so many expressed.
